Here's a peek on what it's like to work with me from a Mom of 2 toddlers,
Mommy and Me Sessions are seasonal and are done in April and May. But I have spots open for Family Sessions starting in August and going through November. If you are interested in getting info about Family Sessions, click HERE.
Why did you choose to have a Mommy and Me Session?
I am never IN the photos! Occasionally, I will set up a selfie with one or both of our little ones; even then, though, everyone is distorted and they are always over-the-top silly. I wanted to have some professional photos taken with my babies to ensure that, one day, THEY will be able to look through the albums and see who and how I was as their Mom--with them--when they were young!
How am I different than other photographers? What makes me stand out?
You make sure that everyone looks like themselves...but also that they look their best (without us having to do much to make that happen). You also catch the most incredible moments. It feels like chaos and I always wonder: "How will we ever get good photos out of this?!"...and then the photos arrive and, WOW, you have caught the loveliest exchanges among and of us! With that said, the moments are genuine. Not every photo is perfect...but then, life is not perfect and we wouldn't want to pretend we are, either :).
How would you describe a portrait session with me? The experience.
We know, going into the sessions, that the photos will turn out beautifully, so we are able to enjoy ourselves, to be ourselves, and to laugh (with you!) a LOT. During one of the sessions, we were all a bit overwhelmed (with a newborn and an 18 month old); you told us to fake it with smiles for just a little while longer. We did as you instructed--and it actually provided us with a focus that allowed us to begin to enjoy ourselves again! It was the acknowledgement by you that this process is not always going to be easy...but that we trust you to help us get the outcome we want!
How would you describe working with me personally?
You smile and laugh easily, you are confident and competent, and you are genuine. You clearly care about the quality of the photographs, but also about ensuring that they truly capture who and where we are in our lives at any given time. It's also fun to catch up with YOU; to find out about how your life is going! This is the case because our family just loves you, Debbie!
What worries or fears did you have going into the session?
I am always concerned, with two young children now, that the sessions will be chaotic to the point that we will be unable to "get the shots"...but I also always know better now! You laugh with the kids when we, as the parents, are getting stressed, and that always calms us down and reminds us to enjoy the experience rather than expect perfection in the moment. Personally, I am often worried about my weight...or my double chin...or a blemish that has popped up unexpectedly :)
How did you feel after your session? (like driving home and that night or the week after)
Exhausted! But looking forward to seeing the final photos. We get so excited when one of our Facebook previews pops up...and then the email from you with the gallery link is like Christmas morning!
How did you feel when seeing your pictures for the first time?
Some sessions have yielded photos that we don't even remember you taking--and they are often the most amazing ones! It really is the moments that you capture that are the most meaningful. When I see some of these photos, they actually help me remember to enjoy the moments in our everyday lives. Sometimes, as most parents do, I feel exhausted and overwhelmed at the end of the day. I always try to look back on these days (often with a glass of wine in hand!) and reflect on the moments for which I am most grateful. These moments often encompass just a few minutes here and there (e.g. a hug or a brief exchange)...but your photos have really helped me practice gratitude because they remind me that it IS the moments that matter the most! And you capture these in every one of our sessions :).
What are you planning to use your pictures for?
I always print the photos and create "old school" albums. I also print our favorites and frame them around the house. Every time we have a session with you, I print and update the photos in these frames. I also create Shutterfly books with the photos...we now have a lot of these books--and the kids enjoy looking at them and telling stories about the "adventures with Ms. Debbie"! None of our extended family lives close by, either, so the grandparents and aunts are also often the gift recipients of these books. They love them!
