At this point, I only have 2 spots left for Fall Senior Sessions. Contact me here -> SENIORS
Had the BEST time with this High School Senior at a coffee shop in Downtown Blacksburg, Virginia. This was such a unique idea and different than any other Senior Session I have done in the past. If you'd like your Senior pictures done in this style, you can contact me on the Seniors page.
"It went so much better than I thought it was going to go...I definitely expected meltdown city from both kids. You were great with them! My son woke up asking about Miss Debbie! " this Mom of 2
Awww that's so great to hear from a Mom with small children after their Family Portrait Session with me. That makes everything so worth it. I want Families to have an awesome experience and look back on their session and have great memories! Not ugh that was terrible, like I have with my own family portraits from walmart and sears back in the day. haha

"What makes you different from other photographers is that you are very flexible and easy to work with. You weren’t preoccupied with getting a certain shot in a certain lighting. If something did not work, you did not get frustrated you tried something different which was a huge lifesaver with the kids. You also gave us positive feedback along the way and involved us in the decision making as to how we wanted our session to go. Nothing felt forced."
Wow! I'm so honored that this Mom feels this way!
"It was a very natural and relaxed experience. It honestly did not even feel like we were getting our pictures taken. It was as if we just went for a walk with our kids and you just happened to be there taking pictures."
This Mom's dream was to have her baby girl's pictures taken outside at their lake house where she grew up. It was an honor to capture these memories for her.

"When we got home that night my daughter asked when we would take pictures with Miss Debbie again. The other daughter is concerned that we don't have enough picture frames in the house for all the pictures you took haha. I'd say the session was a success" A Happy Mom of 4 kids under 5 years old
That's the email I got from this Mom after she saw her gallery online for the first time. It warms my heart that people love their images, but most of all that they had an awesome experience. I'm all about making sure that the kids enjoy themselves and Mom doesn't feel stressed during the photoshoot.

I've had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful family for years now....ever since the oldest son was 1 year old. They now have 3 little boys. The older ones love the new little baby brother and it was so cute to see them interact.
Summer is the perfect time to get Family Portraits because it is warm, sunny, and you can wear comfortable clothes.
Fall is also an ideal time and a very popular season for a Family Session. I am now open for booking Family Portraits for September, October, and November.
Contact me HERE if you'd like to book a session with your Family. Now is the best time. Your family will never be the same as it is right now.
This session was done outside Christiansburg Virginia on a small farm.
I'm almost loving Family pictures in the summertime more than in the Fall now. The weather is warm, you can wear shorts and be comfortable and we don't have to worry about cold weather.
I have some spots left for August. I also have open spots in September, October, and November for Fall Family Sessions. Contact me here if you'd like to book Family Portraits.
I do Family Sessions in Christiansburg, Blacksburg, Radford, and in Pilot, Virginia.
Why did you choose to have a Mommy and Me Session? So many times I am the one taking the pictures and am not in the pictures. I wanted to treat myself to a session where I could just have fun with my son. He often talks about our previous sessions with "Debbie" so I knew he would enjoy himself.
How am I different than other photographers? What makes me stand out? After our first session with you, my husband said, "I like that she just takes pictures." His statement confused me because all photographers take pictures, but he said that he really liked that you didn't spend all of the time having us pose. You just let my son run all over and jump and hang from trees.
How would you describe a portrait session with me? The experience. You are definitely prepared - you know the area where the pictures are being taken and have an idea of where it would be good to go to get great pictures, but you are also laid back. You are willing to let the session deviate from any plan that you may have going into it. That attitude is so appreciated because my child is strong-willed to say the least, and you have a great way of letting him think he is in control all while managing to get great pictures while he plays with sticks and roars at you.
How would you describe working with me personally? I love how much fun you have at our sessions. You truly love photography and working with families. That comes through in the sessions and the pictures.
What worries or fears did you have going into the session? When my husband is involved, I worry about his mood! He hates that I make him go to these sessions - another good reason for the Mommy & Me session :). You manage to put him at ease, which is nice. I worry that my son will cooperate but again you manage to turn around any mood that he may be in.
How did you feel after your session? Relieved that my son was not too crazy and that you seemed to have a good time with how crazy he is.
How did you feel when seeing your pictures for the first time? I always love them and am amazed at what good pictures they are. The picture with my son hanging on the tree has the most likes that I have even gotten from a picture on Facebook. :)
What are you planning to use your pictures for? I have framed many of the pictures, so many that I might run out of wall space. I also used them for holiday cards and a Father's Day present.

Here's a peek on what it's like to work with me from a Mom of 2 toddlers,
Mommy and Me Sessions are seasonal and are done in April and May. But I have spots open for Family Sessions starting in August and going through November. If you are interested in getting info about Family Sessions, click HERE.
Why did you choose to have a Mommy and Me Session?
I am never IN the photos! Occasionally, I will set up a selfie with one or both of our little ones; even then, though, everyone is distorted and they are always over-the-top silly. I wanted to have some professional photos taken with my babies to ensure that, one day, THEY will be able to look through the albums and see who and how I was as their Mom--with them--when they were young!
How am I different than other photographers? What makes me stand out?
You make sure that everyone looks like themselves...but also that they look their best (without us having to do much to make that happen). You also catch the most incredible moments. It feels like chaos and I always wonder: "How will we ever get good photos out of this?!"...and then the photos arrive and, WOW, you have caught the loveliest exchanges among and of us! With that said, the moments are genuine. Not every photo is perfect...but then, life is not perfect and we wouldn't want to pretend we are, either :).
How would you describe a portrait session with me? The experience.
We know, going into the sessions, that the photos will turn out beautifully, so we are able to enjoy ourselves, to be ourselves, and to laugh (with you!) a LOT. During one of the sessions, we were all a bit overwhelmed (with a newborn and an 18 month old); you told us to fake it with smiles for just a little while longer. We did as you instructed--and it actually provided us with a focus that allowed us to begin to enjoy ourselves again! It was the acknowledgement by you that this process is not always going to be easy...but that we trust you to help us get the outcome we want!
How would you describe working with me personally?
You smile and laugh easily, you are confident and competent, and you are genuine. You clearly care about the quality of the photographs, but also about ensuring that they truly capture who and where we are in our lives at any given time. It's also fun to catch up with YOU; to find out about how your life is going! This is the case because our family just loves you, Debbie!
What worries or fears did you have going into the session?
I am always concerned, with two young children now, that the sessions will be chaotic to the point that we will be unable to "get the shots"...but I also always know better now! You laugh with the kids when we, as the parents, are getting stressed, and that always calms us down and reminds us to enjoy the experience rather than expect perfection in the moment. Personally, I am often worried about my weight...or my double chin...or a blemish that has popped up unexpectedly :)
How did you feel after your session? (like driving home and that night or the week after)
Exhausted! But looking forward to seeing the final photos. We get so excited when one of our Facebook previews pops up...and then the email from you with the gallery link is like Christmas morning!
How did you feel when seeing your pictures for the first time?
Some sessions have yielded photos that we don't even remember you taking--and they are often the most amazing ones! It really is the moments that you capture that are the most meaningful. When I see some of these photos, they actually help me remember to enjoy the moments in our everyday lives. Sometimes, as most parents do, I feel exhausted and overwhelmed at the end of the day. I always try to look back on these days (often with a glass of wine in hand!) and reflect on the moments for which I am most grateful. These moments often encompass just a few minutes here and there (e.g. a hug or a brief exchange)...but your photos have really helped me practice gratitude because they remind me that it IS the moments that matter the most! And you capture these in every one of our sessions :).
What are you planning to use your pictures for?
I always print the photos and create "old school" albums. I also print our favorites and frame them around the house. Every time we have a session with you, I print and update the photos in these frames. I also create Shutterfly books with the photos...we now have a lot of these books--and the kids enjoy looking at them and telling stories about the "adventures with Ms. Debbie"! None of our extended family lives close by, either, so the grandparents and aunts are also often the gift recipients of these books. They love them!
